the GIFT OF ART - a giving campaign

12/6/2013

Picture
Inspired by the many incredible service organizations in our community, the Lake Country Art Gallery is launching it’s first annual “The Gift of Art - a giving campaign”.

The Lake Country Art Gallery believes highly in the power of art and creative expression to feed one’s soul, activate new insights and transcend everyday experiences.

Through the creation of small, mobile art kits, the Lake Country Art Gallery’s “The Gift of Art - a giving campaign” will bring art and creative expression to those who might not be able to otherwise access art making and creative outlet opportunities; to those who might most benefit from it.

How does it work?

From now until Sunday, Dec 15th, the Lake Country Art Gallery will accept donations of unused and unopened art supplies in good condition. If you don’t have any art supplies on hand, cash donations will also be accepted.

What kinds of materials can be donated?

We are looking for any and all kinds of unused and unopened art supplies in good condition including, like but not limited to: pencils, pens, felt pens, coloured pencils, chalk and oil pastels, charcoal, conte, inks, tempura paint, watercolour paint, acrylic paint, oil paint, ALL kinds of paint, brushed, water containers, pencil sharpeners, erasers, rulers, scissors, exacto knives, glue, glue sticks, any and all kinds of tape, collage materials (interesting kinds of paper, fabric and other kinds of two dimensional materials) note pads, sketch books, fine art papers (rag, watercolour, etc.), small canvases and wood panels, etc.

How will the art kits be made?

We invite anyone who would like to help organize and make the art kits to the Lake Country Art Gallery on Dec 17th at 10am. Donated materials will be sorted into kits according to a specific project or theme.  Please RSVP to the gallery.

How will the kits be distributed?

The Lake Country Art Gallery will team up other community groups and individuals to distribute the art kits. If you or your group would like to be involved in giving the gift of art this holiday season, please contact the Lake Country Art Gallery at 250-766-1299 / lakecountryartgallery@shaw.ca.

DECK THE WALLS ART EXCHANGE & AUCTION

11/12/2013

Picture
On Saturday November 30th the Lake Country Art Gallery will be hosting its third annual “Deck the Walls Art Exchange and Auction” starting at 6pm at the Aspen Grove Golf Club in Lake Country, BC.

This art auction with a twist has been an exciting and successful event for the Lake Country Art Gallery for the past two years, and each year has auctioned over one hundred pieces of art. Featuring live and silent auction items, and managed by a professional auctioneer, this evening is filled with excitement.

Unlike most auctions, Deck the Walls offers a unique twist; instead of attendees arriving armed with their own cash, buyers will have the opportunity to submit works from their own collection in exchange for “event bucks” to increase their purchasing power. Two weeks before the event starts, on November 22 and 24 between 12pm and 3 pm, anyone can submit a piece of original or limited edition art at LCAG where it will be appraised. There is a $20 submission fee for each piece of artwork; all fees go to support the Lake Country Art Gallery. For each piece of art, you will receive “event bucks” that represent 50% of the appraised value up to $500. These “event bucks” can be used at the auction to place bids on a new piece of art for your collection. Cash can also be used for auction bids.

Auction night, Saturday Nov 30th, is free for anyone to attend. Hosted at Aspen Grove Golf Club, dinner will be served from 5 pm on for auction guests; in addition to providing delicious appetizers and a cash bar throughout the evening – dinner is not included in entry to this event.

Deck the Walls is a rare opportunity to exchange art from your own collection that may need to be refreshed, and in return receive a new piece of art. This is a chance to make a space on your walls for a new piece that you really love. It is practical, economical, and above all a fun and energetic event for the entire community.

Lake Country Art Gallery curator Katie Brennan describes her experience: “It was the first time I'd been to an art auction as a buyer. It was thrilling to be able to actually bid on items due to the value of the piece of my own work I had exchanged. By the end of the night, I walked away with 3 lovely pieces.”

So join us Saturday November 30th at the Lake Country Art Gallery’s third annual Deck the Walls Art Exchange and Auction, starting at 6pm at Aspen Grove Golf Club. All proceeds go to the artists and to support the Lake Country Art Gallery. We will be accepting submissions in exchange for event bucks on November 22 and 24, between 12pm and 3pm. Please contact us any time for additional details.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: November 7th, 2013, Lake Country, BC.

Also on at the Gallery: The 4th Annual Under 100 exhibition at the Lake Country Art Gallery runs from Nov 23rd to Dec 21st and is comprised of small, one of a kind, original artworks by over 50 local Okanagan artists available for sale for under $100. All proceeds from the sale go to the artists and to support the Lake Country Art Gallery.
