Artists Salon
Artist's Salons are an opportunity to join in the conversation and philosophical musings over coffee with the exhibition artists, gallery curator, and other community members. They are one part artists talk and one part community discussion, taking place in the gallery space with every curated exhibition. We invite the exhibition artist(s) and the wider community to gather together and discuss the themes woven throughout the artwork and the broader connection to our world. Although the initial discussion follows the direction of the current exhibition artist(s), attendees are encouraged to add their voice to create an open, diverse, and inclusive conversation.
Artists Salons were a 16th century Italian invention but took root, sprouted, and flourished in France. During the Enlightenment era salons became opportunities for French society to discuss culture and art (some of our treasured topics here at LCAG!). Often women became the core of the salons under the title Salonnières, which was a role defined by their leadership and intellect. Salonnières were responsible for setting the agenda of topics of discourse and steering the conversation.
Here at the gallery we aim to learn from the history of Artist Salons and continue the conversation.
