Artist's Salon | Moored

Join us and the artists of the Davis Road Collective for a conversation about the exhibition and the themes surrounding the work.

Sunday, September 24

1:00 to 3:00 pm
Free Admission

About the show:
The Lake Country Art Gallery presents its summer exhibition, Moored, featuring an installation of artworks by the Davis Road Collective. Comprising three women artists, Jane Everett, Lilly Thorne, and Lysle Barmby, the collective unites their creative skills from various western cities, driven by a shared concern for the encroachments of industry and recreation on the pristine interior of BC.

As the delicate balance of lakes and forests faces escalating threats from clear-cutting, the pine beetle epidemic, and a paradoxical form of 'recreation' that clashes with the very environment it aims to appreciate, the Davis Road Collective explores these pressing issues through their unique artistic expressions. Through a harmonious blend of photography, drawing, and textiles, this exhibition invites viewers to deeply contemplate their impact on the natural world.

"The concepts and conversations explored in the Moored exhibition unfold right here in Lake Country. We proudly boast about the area's natural beauty, yet a leisurely stroll along the lakeshore in Okanagan Centre exposes an uninterrupted string of moored boats cluttering the water...This is precisely why we cherish the presence of artists among us, as they possess the power to reveal our true essence and shed light on our ever-evolving nature. They serve as reminders of beauty while simultaneously sounding the alarm. Few question the substantial allocation of tax dollars toward road maintenance and the accommodation of more cars. But where does this lead us? What does the future hold?"

  • CATTYWAMPUS art exhibition
  • plus OHS cat adoption event
  • and fundraising bakesale

EXHIBITION: Artists were invited to submit any art form that best captures their furry feline beast for this community exhibition that runs from June 24-July 16.

CAT & KITTEN ADOPTION: Are you looking to adopt a furrever friend?

On Sunday, June 25th, the Lake Country Art Gallery will partner with the Okanagan Humane Society for a day of cats, kittens, and the opportunity to select your new best friend to join your family.

FUNDRAISING: Entry to the special cat-themed art gala and adoption day will be by donation. Plus unique and truly creative culinary treats will be available to buy, with the bake sale on June 25th  offering an amazing selection of cat inspired edibles.

If you like to take up the challenge of creating something truly unique for the bake sale/ culinary art show, and support our fundraising drive with the proceeds, we'd like to hear from you. Because while we know that “cats are connoisseurs of comfort”, they are also connoisseurs of fine food. Proceeds from the sale of these feline inspired but human consumable treats will be a fundraiser for the Lake Country Art Gallery. Please email RENA for an application form and more details

Have you heard? Lake Country Cats have been heard to be protesting the number of tax dollars going toward dog parks with no plans from the District of Lake Country to provide green spaces for cats. In a recent interview with Lake Country Art Gallery curator, a cat named Robin, who lives in Okanagan Centre, says although there is a charming dog park along the shores of Okanagan Lake not far from her home, there are no safe spaces for her and other cats to roam and explore, climb a tree, or just bathe in the sunshine. It is time for cats to unite and demand city council takes a serious look at the lack of cat services.

Public art galleries provide spaces for public forums and debates, and the plight of cats is no exception. The Lake Country Art Gallery is taking up the cause and examining this important feline plight. Show your support for the cats of Lake Country by participating in the Lake Country Art Gallery's upcoming exhibition, Cattywampus.

Cattywampus will be up at the LC Art Gallery from June 24th to July 16th.
