Picture
SMS are a series of online workshops for children and youth to connect to the current exhibition at Lake Country Art Gallery. For January & February 2021 we are moving these sessions online. Register at https://www.showpass.com/sms/
Here is how the sessions work:
  • Sign up and register for your preferred session which will include a makers package of the materials you will need for the session.
  • Pick-up your art-kit(s), kits will be available in the week before the live event, Pippa and Alison will be in touch to arrange your contactless pick-up. We are located in Lake Country, BC Canada you must be able to pick up your kit in-person, delivery is not available)
  • Live Zoom, our facilitators Pippa and Alison will be on-hand to guide you through the interactive session, while each young artist creates their own work with their individual artist voice.
  • Videos will be sent to participants after so if you can't make the live session you can join in on your schedule.
Each session is $10 (plus taxes and fees) - except the pottery class which is $25 but includes 2lbs of clay and firing for each participant or buy all 3 sessions and save 15%. Just select from the sessions below and select the number of kits you need. We can't wait for you to join us.

The Made by Hand exhibition explores the connect (or disconnect) between artists and artisans:
"An artist is a person who performs any of the creative arts. This can range from painting to music. An artisan, on the other hand, is a skilled worker who makes things by hand"

SMS sessions seek to support each young artist to express their own unique voice while exploring artistic mediums. Below is a summary of each upcoming workshop, each workshop runs from 10am to 11:30am.
Felting - January 17th
Artist Pippa Dean-Veerman will be guiding young artists through the process of felt-making to create their own artwork, exploring texture and form. This is an interactive workshop with opportunities to interact and share creations with fellow artists.
Collage portraits - January 31st
Portraits through collage, each young artist will create their own portrait of a family member or a self-portrait. Using collage techniques they will be guided through a process of looking in detail and interpreting their ideas into their own unique representation of their sitter. This is an interactive workshop with opportunities to interact and share creations with fellow artists.
Pottery - February 14th
In this session artists will explore how shapes and objects from imagination can be formed using clay. Taking inspiration from a favourite memory each young artist will use pottery techniques to create their own unique 3D artwork. This is an interactive workshop with opportunities to interact and share creations with fellow artists.
Recommended ages 7 and up (even adults can join too).
Buy one give one
If you are in the giving mood and would like to support a local young artist to participate consider adding a Community Giving ticket to your order. We will reach out and let community know how many no-cost kits are available prior to each session.
