Inspired by the conversations of mid-20th century figures such as Simone de Beauvoir, Jean-Paul Sartre and Albert Camus hanging out at the Les Deux Magots Cafe drinking apricot cocktails and gin fizzes discussing art, literature, philosophy and existentialism…that’s how we do it at the LC Art Gallery (BYOB, Ha!)
The Existential Café is an artist talk discussion of sorts that takes place with curated exhibitions. Although the initial conversation takes the direction of the artists in the current exhibition, attendees are encouraged to add their voice to the discussion. The Café is an opportunity to join in the conversation and philosophical musings over coffee with the artists, curator, and other community members at this online event.
Made by Hand
‘Artisan is defined only as someone who makes things with his or her hands. That's all. Therefore, by that definition, pretty much all artists are artisans. However, not all artisans are artists’…
hmmmmm, confused?
... What about this definition…
’An artist is a person who performs any of the creative arts. This can range from painting to music. An artisan, on the other hand, is a skilled worker who makes things by hand’.
Join Curator Wanda Lock, artists from the Made by Hand exhibition and Pippa Dean-Veerman Community Engagement Coordinator for an interactive and engaging virtual cafe. Settle in from the comfort of your own home, bring your favourite beverage listen, discuss and connect with artists and community for a talk around Artist Vs Artisan.
We look forward to seeing you online, this event is FREE but registration is required. A zoom link will be emailed out 2 days prior to the event.
