Our monthly art presentations at Lake Country Manor senior care home, continue this Thursday October 3rd at 2pm with graduate Moozhan Ahmadzadegan presenting on Eileen Agar, an early Surrealist artist from Britain.
Over the course of a seven decade long career as an artist, Eileen Agar is most notable for her place in the surrealist movement of the first half of the 20th century. Despite the variation of style seen in her work, Agar is primarily associated with the surrealist movement in Britain. This can be contributed to her early collages and sculptures, but her paintings take on a rather different approach. While still maintaining some surrealist elements, Agar’s work quickly moved out of the realm of surrealism as her artistic practice progressed throughout the century. By the time she published an autobiography of her life at the age of 88, she was challenging the ideologies of surrealism, the very movement that gave her precedence as an artist.
