Art Licensing is a lucrative and exciting way to get your artwork out there and make money doing it.
"I've been doing licensing for about 6 years now and get a lot of questions about it. It is a large part of my business and has made it possible for me to go full time as an artist this past year. I've created this workshop so that other artists can learn how to license their work and access a new passive income stream for their artwork." - Katie
Art Licensing is leasing the right to use images of your work for reproduction. This allows artists to make their work once, but sell, or license, the use of their work over, and over, and over again. This 2 hour workshop will provide an overview of what licensing is, how it works and how to find the right fit for you. Your instructor, Katie Brennan, will include examples from her own art licensing experience, its pitfalls, its successes; as well as four case studies of licensing companies she has worked with, what they are looking for and how to approach them.
Katie Brennan is an artist who licenses her work to interior designers, manufacturers and retailers. Her work has been sold at Crate & Barrel, Pottery Barn and Williams Sonoma Home, among others and has appeared in House & Home, House Beautiful, Better Homes & Gardens and Good Housekeeping. Katie holds a MFA from the University of Guelph and a BFA from Emily University. Previously Katie was the Executive Director of the Arts Council of the Central Okanagan, the Curator of the Lake Country Art Gallery and a sessional lecturer at UBC Okanagan. She's also an active creative entrepreneur and has run a pop-up gallery, an online event listserv, an online art event website, an online art magazine, a boutique art consulting business and the business of her artistic practice. She is an alumni of Seth Godin's altMBA and Marie Forleo's B School.
