Encaustics Basics with Angela Hansen - Aug 16

8/16/2015

Picture
This all-day workshop will allow participants to explore various techniques with the  fascinating medium of encaustics (wax-based paint). Topics covered include: studio safety, iron and stylus techniques, brushwork, accretion, and layering.

This workshop is suitable for complete beginners or for those who have some experience with encaustics but wish to learn more or gain more experience with a variety of techniques.

Equipment available and used in the workshop is: crock pots, hotplates, styluses, irons, torches and heat guns.

The instructor supplies all equipment and supplies, however students may wish to bring
a few things of their own:

  • Small objects such as buttons, beads, wire, and fabric for embedding
  • Photographs, drawings or photocopies for layering/embedding
  • Suitable substrates such as **unprimed wooden panels/cradled panels,
  • **unprimed stretched canvas, particle board-type panels, and good quality watercolor or printmaking paper. ** Substrates primed with acrylic-based gesso are incompatible with encaustic mediums
  • PearlEx pigment powders
  • Pan pastels
  • Your own heat gun and/or handheld torch
  • Drawing mediums such as graphite and water soluble crayons

The instructor will also have new encaustic supplies and equipment available for students to purchase after the workshop

To register for the workshop, or for further information, please contact Angela at [email protected].

Payment can be made at the beginning of the workshop by cash or cheque. Payments may be made by cash, check or credit card.
