Gone is a collaboration between Kelowna based artist Jane Everett and Nova Scotian poet Anne Simpson. In this project, Everett has mirrored Simpson’s unpublished poem, Otherworld, with a cycle of drawings. Both bodies of work use landscape to express the struggle to come to terms with loss of loved ones. Simpson’s path is a walk along the shore in Antigonish, Nova Scotia and Everett’s follows the greenway along Mission Creek. In this evocative suite of paired drawings and words, poet Anne Simpson and artist Jane Everett capture the feeling of in-between-ness – lostness, transition, reflection and questing for communion is palpable.
In the companion exhibition Compelled Toward Light, by Lake Country based eco-artist Pippa Dean-Veerman, a body of cross faded photos, made up of two consecutive moments exposed onto the same photo, reflect on the communion between an artist with a camera and the natural landscape. Light plays across all the images, evoking a transcendent awareness of mysteries available to us in the grass beneath our feet.
On Saturday, January 18th at 3pm Jane Everett and Pippa Dean-Veerman will join LCAG Curator Katie Brennan for Artists in Conversation, an open discussion. This event is free and open to the public.
YOU ARE INVITED to an OPENING RECEPTION with the artists to celebrate these two beautifully thoughtful exhibitions Wednesday January 8th from 6 - 8pm
