Community Engagement Coordinator 

We are searching for a talented and professional person to fill the position of the Community Engagement Coordinator for the Lake Country Art Gallery. This staff person will work with the management team to develop and implement events and activities that engage the general public with valuable art experiences in Lake Country, the Central Okanagan and beyond.

Job Description

The role of the Community Engagement Coordinator is to plan stimulating community engagement activities and events that are designed for a range of audiences. 
 
In addition to working with some existing core programs, this position provides the opportunity to develop new programming.  Becoming familiar with the needs of the community is essential for the Community Engagement Coordinator to discover the collaborative opportunities, and to creatively plan programming that meets the mission of the art gallery.
 
There is a unique opportunity to develop the future of Lake Country community engagement through art making, art experiences and art education. The Community Engagement Coordinator will be able to help direct, generate and facilitate engagement with community members of all ages, backgrounds, interests, and abilities.
 
Working with the Gallery Manager and the Curator, the Coordinator may plan workshops, classes, or gallery tours that stimulate responses, reflection, study, and inspiration from the artworks in the exhibitions.
 
This position also requires the Coordinator to generate revenue through programs and grants to support the work of community engagement.  The Coordinator will work with the Gallery Manager to manage the budget.
 
The role of the Community Engagement Coordinator requires self-motivation, enthusiasm, community focus, and a positive attitude and readiness to be a team player.

Position Responsibilities

​With support and guidance from the Gallery Manager and the Curator, the Community Engagement Coordinator will:
  • Work with existing programs and seek new opportunities to further develop and maintain a calendar of outreach activities, including community events, workshops, classes, tours, retreats, talks, films, and other special events.
  • Maintain existing partnerships and build relationships with collaborative partners.
  • Prepare accurate records and reports including registrations, communications, marketing, program goals and planning.
  • Generate revenue through grant applications and various fund development approaches to support programming.
  • Maintain all financial transactions and prepare an annual budget for the Community Engagement programming.
  • Oversee the Art House activities and facility care. This includes the management of the facility, housekeeping, organization of art supplies, administration of programming, and coordination of art studio rentals.
  • Deliver or teach a variety of workshops and classes for a range of audiences.
  • Ensure that all activities within the Art House are done in a safe, fun and stimulating environment.
  • Attend and report at monthly staff, board, and annual meetings.

Requirements

The qualifications for this position include the following:
  • Post-secondary degree with a preference for studies in Fine Arts, or equivalent
  • Teaching qualification, or equivalent experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Capacity to organize others.
  • Outstanding planning and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working with a variety of community groups
  • Evidence of strong leadership skills
  • Proven ability to work with a variety of on-line media platforms and programs
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Knowledge of and skills with social media and other basic marketing platforms.
  • Demonstrated excellence in a variety of art techniques.
  • Creative, flexible, energetic, talented and professional.
  • Friendly, enthusiastic and positive attitude.
  • Preferred experience working in the not for profit sector
Position Details: 
The anticipated start date is October 2021 
The position will consist of up to 20 hours per week p/t, with a goal to develop and grow as the funding and programs are developed. 
Flexibility will be required regarding working hours schedule. 
There may be some weekends, evenings, and statuary holiday required, depending on the nature of the community events. 
Salary details will be covered at the interview stage.

Lake Country Art Gallery & Art House

The Lake Country Art Gallery is the public art gallery in the municipality of Lake Country BC. In its eleventh year of operation, this young, dynamic gallery continues to grow and establish itself with quality exhibitions, events and programs that support professional, critical, and community art practices, thereby providing creative contributions to the culture of the Central Okanagan region.
The Board of Directors and the Gallery Manager oversee the operations of the art gallery & art house and are guided by a set of core values working with the following mandate.
