Lake Country Art Gallery is hiring Summer 2025

About The Lake Country Art Gallery
The Lake Country Public Art Gallery was founded in 2010 and is situated in the centre of the community close to the Main Street area.  The gallery hosts 8-10 exhibitions each year, featuring local, regional, provincial and nationally based artists, as well as members and community shows. Entering its twelfth year of operation, this young, dynamic gallery continues to grow and establish itself with quality exhibitions, events and programs that support professional, critical, and community art practices, thereby providing creative contributions to the culture of the Central Okanagan region. The Board of Directors and the Executive Director oversee the operations of the art gallery and are guided by a set of core values working with the following mandate.
 
Mandate of the Lake Country Art Gallery
The Lake Country Art Gallery informs and builds community through enriching and sometimes challenging exhibitions.  It offers diverse and inclusive programming and gives space to artists in varied artistic practices.  It is accessible, engages the local community and beyond, and fulfils its role with a strong, contemporary voice.

POSITION: Art Gallery, public programs and summer events support 

DURATION: 8 weeks starting July; up to 37 hrs p/w

 
ABOUT YOU
The successful candidate will have a genuine interest in the arts and in supporting programs that engage and interest the community with the exhibitions presented in the gallery. You'll have plenty of curiosity and creativity, the ability to learn and adapt  while being mentored to engage the public in person and online.
 
The Lake Country Art Gallery is seeking an individual that is passionate about art and education, with an aptitude for technology, being open to mentorship, learning and contributing to the success of the exhibitions and programs on offer through the summer of 2025.
 
THE JOB
  • As gallery host, or while supporting volunteer hosts, you'll be first point of contact for gallery visitors, answering questions and queries about exhibitions and general information on gallery programming and events.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of Art Gallery public relations, community engagement and program delivery.
  • Support the delivery of Public Programs that enhance the visitor experience of visiting the Art Gallery Exhibitions.
  • Support the design and production of gallery guides, educational materials, workshops and events.
  • Maintain, manage and plan engaging social media content, maximising community reach, through the development of a social media strategy.
  • Support the organisation and delivery of events and workshops that meet the needs of community groups, all age groups, providing a diverse range of opportunities. 
  • Support the organisation and delivery of up to two weeks of summer art camps.
  • Provide in-person and online gallery tours to interested individuals or groups, with the ability to share relevant knowledge and understanding of current exhibitions.
  • Monitor and respond to emails on a regular basis, responding in a timely manner. 
  • Plan, write and send out newsletters or information relating to events and programs offered. 
  • Develop marketing materials as needed.
  • Keep accurate records of activities including attendance, providing a monthly report to the gallery board. 
  • Act as first contact point for potential community stakeholders
  • Create and collect feedback, track data and analyse website statistics, updating as needed.
  • Work with volunteers to keep up with maintenance and regular cleaning of public spaces ensuring public health and safety.
  • Other duties include assistance with volunteer recruiting, general business administration, class registrations, event management, communications and marketing.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Completion of 2 or more years in post-secondary education, preferred areas of study include: Art, Art History, Design, Education, Social Work, Arts, Marketing or Business.
  • Outgoing with the ability to work independently and effectively as part of a small team.
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written,
  • Experience leading groups or working with audiences of various ages and abilities is an asset.
  • Knowledge and practical experience of using social media channels including facebook, Instagram, YouTube
  • Strong organisational skills, ability to follow tight deadlines and maintain quality output.
  • Ability to use technology such as laptops, tablets, phones, cameras when gathering photographs and videos as well as manipulating/editing and archiving.
  • Experience with the following software and platforms is an asset; G-suit shared drives and Google Docs, Tockify, Canva, Mail Chimp, Microsoft Office, 
 

IMPORTANT Eligibility for the position is also dependent upon the the following
  • You must be between 18 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment*;
  • You are a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment**; and,
  • You have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
  • All applicants must be available to work a flexible schedule which will include some evenings and weekends.
  • This positions will begin in July and will run throughout the summer until the end of August. You must be available to work at all times during this period.

Position Key Points
  • The anticipated start date is July 11, 2025 
  • The position will consist of 37 hours per week for 8 weeks at $19.50 p/h 
  • Flexibility will be required regarding working hours schedule ​
