"I have been very lucky in my 30-year career as costume tailor to have worked for The Stratford Festival and The National Ballet of Canada. I have also worked on many TV shows and films such as Once Upon a Time and Dead Pool 2 to name a few.
My need to create outside my profession has always been strong. As a young girl I was enchanted with doll houses – they were like secret little worlds I could inhabit. My fascination with the secret little world has never left me, only now, I embrace it wholly through creating my dioramas.
My love of theatre is another inspiration in my dioramas. It drives the drama in these dioramas and keeps me forever captivated by this art form. My first show here at LCAG was pivotal for me as an artist. Seeing how others interpret my work is deeply gratifying. The biggest lesson I’ve learned has been that once it’s finished, it no longer belongs to you.
As facilitator I hope to give you, the student, the tools in which to find that little world inside of you. Bringing that realm to life is as exciting as finding a cupboard you never knew existed in your own room. The workshop will focus on creating a mini sculptural scene around a special item/memento you choose to bring. We will build it layer by layer, using a variety of materials that I will provide such as: paints, paper, wire and mirror, etc. I will also provide different styles of boxes for you to choose from."
Cost for class $110. Can be paid through the Gallery or Instructor.
10 students maximum.
